The Ultimate Guide to Planning Your Dream Destination Wedding in Suffolk or Norfolk

Planning a wedding in a new location can be overwhelming, but don't worry, I've got you covered! As a wedding photographer who has worked in Suffolk and Norfolk for many years, I have seen it all. Here are some tips and tricks to help you plan your dream wedding in East Anglia.

  • Research the Area: Take a look at wedding venues, catering services, florists, and other vendors in the area. This can help you get an idea of what is available in the region, and it can also give you inspiration for your wedding day. I've got lots of blogs all about vendors and venues in East Anglia. So check them out for some inspiration here, www.nicholsweddings.co.uk/blog

  • Consider a venue that is steeped in history. There are many beautiful and historic venues in Suffolk and Norfolk, such as castles, stately homes, and churches. Choosing a venue with a rich history can add a touch of elegance and sophistication to your wedding.

  • Incorporate local food and drink into your wedding menu. In Suffolk, you'll find a plethora of breweries, each offering their unique flavors and craftmanship. One notable example is Adnams brewery, renowned for its exceptional range of Ales. By collaborating with Adnams or other local breweries, you can provide your guests with a diverse selection of high-quality drinks to elevate their tasting experience. From refreshing ales to crisp lagers and flavorful ciders, incorporating Suffolk's brewery scene will add an extra layer of authenticity and enjoyment to your wedding celebrations. Norfolk is known for its delectable artisanal cheeses, adding a touch of local flavor to your wedding. Consider featuring Norfolk Dapple, a creamy and nutty semi-hard cheese, or the tangy and creamy Binham Blue. For a softer option, Norfolk White Lady offers a melt-in-your-mouth texture and a subtle buttery taste. Including these Norfolk cheeses will delight your guests and celebrate the region's culinary heritage in a single delectable bite.

  • Consider the Weather: As with any outdoor event, it is essential to plan for the weather. Suffolk and Norfolk can have unpredictable weather, so make sure you have a plan B in case of rain or high winds. Consider indoor venues or marquees as a backup plan.

  • Hire a Local Wedding Planner: A local wedding planner can be a great asset in planning your wedding in Suffolk or Norfolk. They know the area well and can offer insight into local vendors and venues. They can also help you with logistics, such as arranging transportation for your guests. (I always recommend booking a photographer first and discussing your wedding with them, since sometimes they know so many contacts in the wedding industry that a planner may not even be needed.)

  • Make it a Weekend Getaway: Turn your wedding into a weekend getaway for you and your guests. Suffolk and Norfolk have many beautiful towns and villages to explore, so why not plan some activities for your guests, such as a boat trip on the Norfolk Broads or a visit to one of Suffolk's many historic sites?

  • Don't Forget the Little Things: It's easy to get caught up in the big picture, but don't forget the little things that can make your wedding day special. Personal touches, like handwritten place cards or favours that reflect your personality, can make a big impact.

  • Book Your Vendors Early: Suffolk and Norfolk are popular wedding destinations, so make sure to book your vendors as early as possible. This will give you the best selection of venues and vendors, and it will also help you avoid last-minute stress. ( again if you need help finding suppliers, ask your photographer)

  1. Plan your wedding attire. The bride and groom will be the center of attention on their wedding day, so it's important to choose attire that makes you feel confident and beautiful. I Have a whole blog about where to find your perfect wedding attire HERE.

  • Plan your wedding photos and video. A professional photographer can capture the memories of your wedding day so that you can cherish them for years to come. A videographer can also capture the day on film, so that you can relive it again and again.

  • Get a Good Night's Sleep: Wedding planning can be stressful, but it's essential to get a good night's sleep before your big day. Make sure to plan for a quiet night the night before your wedding, so you wake up feeling refreshed and ready to go.

  • Delegate tasks. Don't try to do everything yourself. Ask your friends and family to help with tasks such as addressing invitations, setting up tables, and cleaning up after the reception. And never be afraid to ask, I always say don't ask, Don't get haha!

  • Get organized. Planning a wedding can be a lot of work, so it's important to get organized. Create a wedding planning binder or use a wedding planning website to keep track of all your details. I have a whole blog about how organise a wedding day timeline/Schedule HERE

  • Be flexible. Things don't always go according to plan on your wedding day. Be prepared to roll with the punches and make changes as needed.

  • Enjoy the Moment: Your wedding day is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, so make sure to enjoy every moment. Take a moment to step back and soak it all in, and don't forget to have fun!
